Los Hermanos Colon - BIOGRAPHY By: Marcos Colon
Los Hermanos Colón have become a sensation in the salsa
world,the group is composed of three brothers Marcos,Herman and Freddy Colón,Marcos
was born in Puerto Rico,Herman and Freddy were born in New York. The Colón Brothers grew up in "EL
BARRIO" surrounded by musical influences from an early age,their father was a lider of a popular Salsa Band
and their mother a noted Jibaro Singer for La Sonora Casino, the closeness of this family of musicians is
reflected in their warmth and sincerity generated through their music.
Herman Colón and His Sextet began performing in the 1970's influenced
by such popular Latin Music Artists: Willie Colon,Joe Cuba,Harvey Averne
and Joe Bataan. Percussionist Herman was then joined by his brother bongosero Freddy Colón and the
Sextet continue to play for another six years and later it became "La Constitucion". Before Marcos
joined his brotherhe was part of a dynamic duo called "Cassidy" this duo performed in night clubs
such as: "The other end","The bitter end" and"home" Marcos has modeled professionally for Ebony
Men Magazine & has done television commercials with Christie Brinkley & Beberly Johnson
for Isotoner Gloves.
During the 80's the band enjoyed popularity in local NY night clubs and Puerto Rican venues
as well as providing back-up to Island Singers Tito Rojas,Paquito Guzman, and Milagros
"La Loba" Hernandez.
Now known as Los Hermanos Colón the 90's brought their first
production "AMAME UN POCO MAS" on the Mambolero Label produced by Sergio George,the
title song and other original numbers such as " DE DOCE ATRES" received tremendous airplay and night clubs
recognition.
Their Second production was "NATURAL" , This recording contains
both English and Spanish lyrics with production and arrangement by Rene Leyva & Sergio George
the Album earned The Brothers international recognition with the songs: "Toda Mia" & "Con Derecho".
Their Third production "LOS HOMBRES NO DEBEN LLORAR" for J&N Records/Sony Distribution with
songs like "La Media Vuelt" with a mexican flavor to it& the song 'Yo soy Boricua" featuring The Puerto
Rican Folklore earned The Brothers popularity among their own Culture & the different Latin American Cultures in New York.
At Orchard Beach THE COLON BROTHERS were named by their public "Los Hijos de La Playa/The Sons of the
Beach" for their lively & Festive performances.
Their Fourth production "ABRIENDO NUEVOS CAMINOS" was their
first production under LHC Records Inc. with songs like; 'Yo soy Latino",The Brothers won the hearts of the Latin American
Public.
For their fifth production The Brothers reunited a number of diffrents composers of both anglo
and hispanic heritage to createtheir Masterpiece "ENGLISH SALSA/GRATEST HITS" with songs like "Trought
the years"& Mama" a beautiful song written by Marcos Colon and dedicated by The Brothers
to their late Mother Juanita Vazquez. Over the years LOS HERMANOS COLON have received great support &
recognition from The American & Latin American Pres tey were chosen to sing the theme song in the Movie "The Girl
in the watermelon" furthermore The Brothers are not only Artists but also Family Members & Community lEaders decated
to the prpgress of The Latino Community.
